Here you´ll find information about how to use all different options and features in PSPVC.
-
The first thing you need to do is to select a video you want to convert. There are two ways of selecting a video in PSPVC, either you select a video-source from your local computer (press "Local" tab), or you can download the video straight from the net (press "Online" tab).
- Local:
Select a video file (source) from your computer and set the video title.
- Online:
- Preset:
With presets you can save and load your settings to set up PSPVC fast without having to manually set it up the way you want everytime you use PSPVC. Set up PSPVC the way you want and then click "Save Preset" to save the settings. Next time you want to use the same settings, just click "Load Preset" and select your file - PSPVC will now be configured according to the settings in your preset.
-
- Kill Video:
Check this option if you want to remove the video stream and convert the audio into MP4 AAC. You can also convert different audio formats into MP4 AAC using PSPVC. Simply click "Source" and select an audio file instead´of a video file ;)
Tip: If you want to rip music from your videos, use the preview function and set the start and duration options, then click "Preview" to extract the audio.
- Bitrate:
Sets the quality of the sound. Higher bitrate = better, but also results in a bigger file size.
- Frequency
Sets the sampling frequency. 44100 Mhz is set by default.
- Channels:
Set the number of channels you want to use, 1 = Mono, 2 = Stereo
- Volume:
0 = No sound, 800 = VERY LOUD!!
To maximize the volume without distorting it, set the voulme to "AUTO" by setting the volume to maximum.
- Delay:
Use if the audio is out of sync (in milliseconds)
-
- Bitrate:
Sets the quality of the video. Higher = better, but also results in a bigger file size. If you wish to convert the video with the same quality as the source, select "EQUAL" (first option in the list).
- Target File Size:
Convert video by size (MB). Example: If you convert a 1.5h DVD and you´d like it to result in a 350Mb video, just enter the value 350 and the bitrate will be calculated to target your size.
- Tolerance
This sets how high the bitrate tolerance should be in kb/s. Set to "Off" if you dont want any tolerance.
- Framerate:
Sets the amount of frames per second (fps), lower = smaller filesize & lower quality, higher fps = bigger filesize & better quality.
To let PSPVC decide the optimal framerate for the video you´re converting, then select "AUTO".
- Resolution:
Sets the screen resolution of your video. If you want PSPVC to calculate and suggest a resolution, select "AUTO" from the dropdown menu.
To let PSPVC select a resolution for you, select "AUTO"
- Resize:
ffmpeg = basic resize
Bicubic = resize with added sharpening
Bilinear = resize with no added sharpening
Lanczos = an alternative to Bicubic. Offers better quality and a sharper image
Lanczos4 = as Lanczos but with a sharper image. Usefull when upsizing videos
Spline16 = less ringing artefacts than Lanczos but produces a sharper image
Spline32 = same as Spline16 but sharper
Spline64 = same as Spline32 but sharper
- Aspect:
Sets the aspect of your video, 4:3 (Normal) or 16:9 (Widescreen).
To keep the aspect as it is, select "Keep Aspect".
- Codec:
Using the H264 codec takes longer time to encode but it also results in a higher quality.
- Pass:
1 Pass = fast, 2 Pass = 2 times slower since the video will pass through the conversion process 2 times, but, gives a better result.
- Pad/Crop:
If you need to pad/crop your movie (in pixels) click the "Pad/Crop" tab and check the checkbox you want to use.
-
You can use PSPVC to download and convert videos from popular video sites arround the net. Click on the "Online" tab and do like this:
- Download a single video
Enter a video link into the URL field, then enter a Video title and click "Convert".
- Download multiple videos
with the <batch> command
By entering the
<batch> command in the URL field, you tell PSPVC to download videos from a batch list containing titles and links to each video you want to get.
The list can hold an unlimited amount of tasks and any link to any of the
supported sites.
For information on how to create the batch list, please
go here.
- Auto Convert
Check this option if you want PSPVC to start converting the video as soon as it has been downloaded.
If you want to change PSPVC´s configuration for the Auto Convert option. Then configure PSPVC to your liking, then save the settings/presets as "download.xml".

By adding a "job" to queue, you can convert many videos at once. Select a video, set all preferences and click "Add Job".
- "Arrow" button:
Update the selected job in the menu.
- "X" button:
Delete the selected job.
- "Trash" button:

- Deinterlace:
Deinterlace the video (remove odd lines). This function will slightly decrease your bitrate. To compensate the loss, higher your bitrate a little bit. Example: if you´d like to convert a video with a bitrate of 768 kbps, you could set your bitrate to somewhere around 800 kbps instead.
- Color Matrix: (color correction for MPEG sources)
This filter corrects the colors in MPEG streams. Usefull for DVD´s and other MPEG sources
- Deblock
Smoothes out videos that appear to have small blocks/squares in the image. This filter is usefull for videos downloaded from Youtube, Google, MySpace or other low resolution videos that appear to be "blocky". The result gives a smother image. 0 = Off, 60 = Max deblocking.
Be carefull when using this filter, it will slow down the process to a crawl!

Click "Add Subtitle" tab, then click the "Subtitle" button to load a subtitle (*.srt). Select a font and fontsize by clicking the "Font" button. To set the fontcolor and outlinecolor, click on the colorboxes.
If you want to position the subtitles higher or lower on the screen, uncheck the "Vertical-Align" checkbox and change the value to something else. Higher value = towards the top, lower value = towards the bottom of the screen.
NOTE: MAKE SURE YOUR SUBTITLES ARE VALID
If you cant get the subtitles to work, then it's most likely the srt being invalid!
PSPVC is pretty picky about the subtitles and require them to be valid. To make sure your subtitles are in a proper format, follow these simple steps:
- Download and install Subtitle Workshop, it will validate your subtitles automatically
- Click "File" ---> "Load Subtitle" (or press CTRL+O) and select your srt file
- Click "File" ---> "Save" (or press CTRL+S) to save them again
ADJUST THE SUBTITLES TO FIT THE PSP SCREEN
If the lines in the subtitles are too long and are displayed out of range, you might want to adjust the length of the text-lines to fit the PSP screen. Do like this:
- Start Subtitle Workshop
- Click "File" ---> "Load Subtitle" (or CTRL+O) and select your subtitles file
- Click "Edit" ---> "Select All " (Or CTRL+A) to select all subtitles
- Click "Edit" ---> "Text" ---> "Smart Line Adjust" (Or CTRL+E) to adjust the subs
- Click "File" ---> "Save" (or press CTRL+S) to save them again
-
- Quantizer: (Will override your bitrate settings!)
When using the H264 codec, you can convert your video by a dynamic quantizer. Simply set a minimum and a maximum value ranging from 1-31 where 1 is the highest quality and 31 the lowest. If you would like to convert by a fixed quantizer, set minimum and maximum to the same value.
Please not that when converting a video with H264 unchecked, only the fixed quantizer is available.
- Macroblock:
With this option checked (default), PSPVC will work a bit slower - but will improve compression efficiency and visual quality.
- Threads
Speeds up the conversion if your system supports this function.
- Motion Estimation
0 = Disabled, 5 = Highest.
- Trellis
Optimize motion estimation. 0 = Disabled, 1 = Normal, 2 = High (default)
- Pixel Range
Decides how many pixels the motion estimation should use, 16 = default
- B-Frames
Set the maximum number of B-frames to improve compression. Min = 0 (disabled, not recommended!), Max = 5. The more B-frames the slower convertion but it will also result in better compress your video better.

-
For PSPVC veterans, this feature has been replaced by the new Trim feature!
-
If you, by some reason cant get PSPVC to start convert your video, enable this option and PSPVC will turn off all Avisynth options and attempt to force PSPVC to start.
-
After you´ve made a preview or converted your video, set your PSP in USB mode and then click the "Upload" button in PSPVC and the video along with the screenshot will be uploaded to your PSP.
If PSPVC gives you an error-message, do like this:
- Connect the PSP to your computer
- Create a "VIDEO" and a "MUSIC" folder in the root of your memory stick.
(all folder-names must be in CAPS!)
